TNA wants Sri Lanka to be told to halt military campaign
Saturday, 3 March 2007 - 6:32 PM SL Time

India should ask Sri Lanka to halt its military campaign against Tamils on the island and remind the island government about its obligations under the ceasefire agreement between Ranil Wickremesinghe and the LTTE, N. Srikantha, a Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP, said here on Friday

At a press conference organised here by the World Tamils Federation headed by T.R. Janarthanam, Mr. Srikantha said what was happening on the island nation was a continuing story of blatant violation of human rights. The government continued to embark on military campaign to weaken the Tamil people`s resistance to enable it to impose a solution.

Besides abduction of Tamil people by the armed forces, there were indiscriminate arrests and detentions. He thanked Tamil Nadu for its automatic and emotional response to their plight. `We expect India to act firmly on the Sri Lankan Tamil question so that the sufferings of the people can soon come to an end.`

Replying to a question, M.K. Sivajilingam, another TNA MP, said LTTE leaders had told him that their organisation`s name was misused by operators involved in recent attempts to smuggle explosives to the island.
